CookReel works without an account. You open it and start — your identity stays entirely your own.

Your photos and videos stay on your device

Photos you choose for a reel are copied into CookReel's own storage on your device, and that is where they stay. Finished reels are written to your Photos library, on your device.

CookReel asks for one photo permission: to add to your library, so it can save a finished reel. Choosing a photo happens in Apple's own picker.

Importing a recipe

This is the one feature that sends anything off your device. When you import a recipe, the web address you give us — or the text you paste — goes to our own server, which turns it into a shot list with the help of two specialist providers: one retrieves the page at the address you supplied, and one reads that page's text and returns the recipe's ingredients and steps as structured data.

We keep the resulting shot list on our server for up to 30 days, keyed by the web address, so importing the same recipe again is faster. It is keyed by that address alone.

Purchases

Clean Export is a one-time purchase. Apple processes the payment and keeps your payment details. A purchase-management provider records the entitlement on our behalf, receiving your App Store receipt and an anonymous device identifier supplied by Apple, so your purchase can be restored on your other devices.

Analytics

We count how many people use CookReel and which parts of it they reach — that a reel was started, that an export finished, that a screen was opened, that a recipe import needs a better error message. An analytics provider stores these counts for us. This is what tells us what to improve.

Every event records an action and the app's own name for a screen. That is the whole of it: the app is built so that a recipe's wording, a web address, or anything you typed stays on your device.

How CookReel is funded

• CookReel is paid for by a one-time in-app purchase.
• Your information stays with us and the providers that operate CookReel.
• Analytics stay within CookReel and measure CookReel alone.
• CookReel is made for a general audience.

Your rights

Deleting the app removes everything CookReel stored on your device. If you would like a cached recipe removed from our server, send us the web address and we will delete it. For any other request about your information, write to us and we will answer.
